Spring break at Whistler
It has been 10 years since we last skied Whistler (Alex and Maile were so young they don’t even remember). In fact, it was Maile’s first time on skis just before she turned three. Definitely overdue.

Surf lessons with Kona Mike.
Scheduling a longer layover in Honolulu has become a family tradition. Many years ago we introduced our kids to Liliha Bakery and their signature pastry. Funny how this treat, not the beach, surfing or snorkeling, represents a successful trip Hawaii for our kids. This is a clear example of how travel often offers different things for different people. Often our kids see things very differently than we do, and it can be quite enlightening to compare highlights after the fact. With this in mind, there is no doubt in my mind that, a year or two from now, Alex and Maile will recall taking an Uber from the airport to Liliha Bakery on our way to Kona more than surfing Kahalu’u or watching whales beach from Hapuna Beach.
A beautiful afternoon at the Temple of Heaven. Alex and Maile enjoyed the surrounding park even more than the temple, playing hackysack with the locals and joining them on the exercise equipment.
Great weather, fantastic day to visit Tienamen Square and the Forbidden City. Our guide, Peter, was great. Afterwards, we spent a couple of hours wandering (and riding a rickshaw) through a traditional Hutong nearby.
